Does waxing hurt?
Well, you are removing hair from the follicle so yes, it’s going to hurt. However, it does get easier each time and after the pull it’s really not that bad. The hair usually grows slower after the first waxing. We also have a product called No Scream Cream that needs to be applied 30+ minutes before your appointment and it can really help.
How long does my hair have to be, really?
It needs to be 1/2 to 1/4 inch long, or 2-4 weeks of out growth after your last shave. Once you start waxing, plan to be re-waxed every 4-6 weeks. Do Not Shave in between – this is like starting over.
Will it grow back thicker or stronger?
Not likely. Only hormonal changes, either natural or artificial, alter our hair. The difference between shaving and waxing is shaving blunt-cuts a hair, leaving stubble, while waxing pulls the hair out by the root.
How long will it last?
Usually you will need to be re-waxed every 4-6 weeks. The area being waxed will not necessarily be completely smooth. This really depends on your type of hair. It will slow down and feel softer. There are 3 stages of hair growth and you have between 3-7 hairs per follicle so after you have several treatments 4 weeks apart you will notice a bigger difference. Some people’s hair slows down quicker then others.
Are there reactions?
Yes, there could be. The upper lip, bikini, back and chest are all areas that break out. You may have a tendency towards irritation if you have a reaction to shaving. Proper home care is a must to keep your waxed area smooth and hydrated.
Can I tweeze or shave in between services?
We highly discourage you from tweezing or shaving. We want to get the hair as much on the same schedule as possible. If you must shave, you need to let the hair grown back in for about 2 weeks.
Is waxing sanitary? I heard you can get an STD
No, you can not get an STD from waxing. We wear gloves, we do not double-dip our waxing sticks, and we prep the skin before and after the service. But it is important that you go to a clean place. If you don’t feel comfortable then you should leave. Check out our June 2009 newsletter for some great information and our thoughts on a Women’s Health article about bikini waxing.
What do I wear to my waxing appointment?
You will be most comfortable if you wear loose fitting clothing and nothing too tight on the area that you are getting waxed. If you are having your back or chest waxed it would be a good idea to wear a t-shirt under your dress shirt, just in case. Sometimes you will have little blood drops. This is nothing to be concerned about. The hair was simply attached to its food source which is blood.
Do I need to get naked?
If you are having a Brazilian Wax, you will need to completely disrobe from the waist down. We do provide a towel for you to drape over your bikini area. Mostly you just need to undress the area being waxed. We know it’s not fun to have someone all up in your business but we promise to make it as comfortable and easy as a Brazilian wax can be. We’ve done this for over 12 years and we’re very good at what we do. So just try to breathe and relax.
What should I avoid after a waxing service?
For about 24 hours no “extra curricular” activities or activities that cause you get extremely hot and or sweaty. No pools, hot tubs, or soaking in any water. For about 48 hours , no sun or tanning beds.
How often do I need to come in?
Mostly every 4 weeks. Some of you might be able to get a little longer between services. Please remember, the moment you shave or use a depilatory, you become a virgin wax again, so try to be patient.
What kind of wax do you use?
Only the best! We’ve tried several different waxes since we started this over 12 years ago. We use a low temperature hard wax for all sensitive areas. We use a strip wax for all large areas.
What the heck is a Brazilian & how long does it take?
A Brazilian wax takes all the hair from Down Under – and yes front to back and everything in between. You may leave a strip or triangle at the top if you like. We usually book an hour for most Brazilian waxes. Could we get this service done in less time? Sure – but we don’t feel it’s necessary to rush our clients. We am also very meticulous, so we’ll make sure you don’t have hairs where you are not supposed to. We also will apply a mud mask to help with the irritation and it will also help to prevent ingrown hairs. You will increase your pain tolerance, lose your modesty and do a little yoga all in one visit! ;)
What about the Male Brazilian, the Manzilian?
Hair will be removed from the perineum up. Some men prefer to take everything in the male bikini area and others will leave some at the top, this is really just personal preference. If you would like all the area of the glutes/bum, we will happily fix you up for an additional charge.
I’m pregnant! Can I get waxed?
Yep! There is no need to be concerned about waxing while you are pregnant. We wax a lot of our clients up to the time that they are due to deliver. It is nice to be all cleaned up down there before the baby comes.
Medications?
If you are on or have been on Accutane in the last year then you should not be waxed! You need to wait 1 year before waxing. The skin is generally very sensitive during and after Accutane. If you use Retin-A, Glycolic, Salicylic, other acid treatments and certain medications you may not be able to be waxed for up to 2 weeks after you have stopped using them.
Can I get a bikini wax while on my menstrual cycle?
You can. It might smart a little more but just use a tampon and you are good to go.
What can I expect afterwards?
Freshly waxed skin might be tender for a couple of days. Skin may break out in tiny bumps, especially when waxed for the first time. This reaction is normal and clears up quickly. We recommend using our Hoo-Ha kits daily to keep your girl in tip top shape.
What can I do about bikini bumps/ingrown hair?
We recommend using our products from the Hoo-Ha kit to keep your girl in good shape. Please AVOID using natural loofahs, they hold onto bacteria and can lead to infections!
Can I tan before or after I get waxed?
It is best to wait 48 hours before or after waxing. You should never wax if you have sunburn. The very top layer of skin could pull off or “lift” which is painful and can result in scabbing. Be advised, waxed skin is more photosensitive and is more susceptible to burning.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are REQUIRED! We cannot accept walk-ins! Please be early or on time to avoid losing your appointment. If you need to reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. If you cancel with less than 24 hour notice, you will be expected to pay for your service. See our Policies page for more information.
