As part of our Healing the Past, Living the Present and Dreaming the Future Events, we present Survivors Finding Voice Lecture and Art Showing with Wanda Meade at Augusta Road Location of Greenville Yoga on October 12 from 4 to 6 pm.
In the words of the artist, Wanda Meade:
Little did I know that a cold February morning out shooting photographs would lead to the passion project of Survivors Finding Voice.
As the project unfolded, my dream was to help survivors of sexual abuse tell their stories and at the same time raise community awareness. Having worked with survivors for more than 40 years, I have witnessed their courage and resilience and wanted the project to empower them by bringing their voices forward.
What I discovered as I worked on the project was that I was finding my own creative voice and spirit as a photographer…a talent that in the beginning I denied was mine. I am grateful for this “second half of life” experience and opportunity. The project has opened doors for me to creatively support this cause and to open eyes and hearts about sexual abuse.
Join me as I share my project and my story. The gallery preview of the Survivors Finding Voice photography exhibit begins at 4:00 p.m. at Greenville Yoga on Augusta Road. At 5:00 p.m. I will share the story of my journey to find my own voice through my work on this project. Questions and answers will follow before the exhibit closes at 6:00 p.m.
Read more about the project at http://survivorsfindingvoice.com/ and RSVP for this event on Facebook.
