Did you know that for every $100 you spend at a locally-owned store, $68 stays in the community via payroll, taxes, etc. but if you spend that same amount of money at a nationally-owned chain store, only $43 stays here?
And if you buy online, $0 benefits our city–unless it’s a locally owned web business–so before you spend your hard earned money, think about how that will impact our great part of the world. Let’s keep our green in Greenville!
To help you shop locally, we’ve assembled a list of local merchants, restaurants, and service providers that we know and recommend. Shop local, and keep more green in Greenville!

Atlantic Institute– Love this organization – Atlantic Institute is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote dialogue among people and towards issues that pertain to their lives. Atlantic Institute’s mainstay is to engage in educational activities about social and cultural matters.
Big Cat Rescue – Big Cat Rescue is an animal sanctuary near Tampa, Florida, United States, devoted to rescuing and housing exotic cats, rehabilitating injured or orphaned native wild cats, and ending the private trade and ownership of exotic cats via educational outreach and legislation. I’ve sponsored several cats for nieces and nephews, and they loved getting updates about “their” animal.

The SC Ovarian Cancer Foundation – Dedicated to improving the health of women through education on the warning signs of ovarian cancer, support of those diagnosed with the disease and promotion of ovarian cancer research.
United Ministries – Due to the foundational roots of poverty, financial crisis, and homelessness, outside help is almost always needed to give families a chance at something more than constant struggle. United Ministries exists to identify various contributing factors and offer multiple services with one goal: to serve and empower those on the transformative journey to self-sufficiency.

Education
English for Life – I went to Ecuador with Kim for a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification. It was a lot of work, but once you’re certified you can teach English internationally. (My bucket list/backup plan for someday.) EFL has graduates all over the world – literally!
Food, Health & Wellness
A Better You – This is Tina that I work with – she does a fabulous job and you can come in and have a facial with me and mani/pedi with her if your little heart desires. She does Electrolysis, Natural Manicures and Pedicures.
The Carolina Honey Bee Company – Local Honey and Bee Keeping Supplies. Susan came to speak to my networking group and it was so interesting how bees work and the different types of bees. She is on Main St in Travelers Rest – take an afternoon and go check it out. There are some other great little shops there as well.
Greenbrier Farms – Farm in Easley with livestock, produce, a CSA program, and more. Mark your calendar for their spring plant sale! And find them at the downtown Greenville Farmer’s market every Saturday in season.
Greenville Natural Health – Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs – Marina was my first Acupuncturist. She is fabulous and also hosts Asheville Integrative Medicine every month or so for Thermography.
Greenville Yoga – This is my favorite place to take yoga. Liz and Caroline (she was one of my first yoga instructors when I started in 2002!) have been helping me get my Zen on – well you know they can only do so much for me! ;) – for a long time now.
Hurricane Creek Farms – Their focus is on organically grown, hydroponic produce.
Pure on Main – Wellness center specialized in Cleansing, Detoxing and Rejuvenation in Downtown Greenville, SC. Colonics, Nutritional Counseling, Massage and Herbal Store.
Hair
Michele Dunn – Michele Dunn from Hello Beautiful, located inside Artistic Cutters, is an absolute treasure! I have been visiting her for my hair styling needs for over 8 years now, and she always exceeds my expectations. She is up to date on the latest coloring techniques and styles, ensuring that my look is always on trend. She knows how to make me look beautiful, but also takes the time to understand my individual needs and preferences so that she can give me a unique style tailored just for me. I would highly recommend Michele Dunn from Hello Beautiful salon to anyone looking for a high-quality hair styling service.
Home and Garden
Carter Color Company – LOVE LOVE LOVE this Benjamin Moore Paint Store – Esme and her hubby Curtis are fabulous. Esme was so helpful when I was in the process of renovating my house. I love color and wanted something really fun and different. I had a vision of what I wanted the outside of the house to look like. I tried to explain it to a few people and just wasn’t getting it explained well. Esme had the colors I wanted on the first try!! So worth the drive to Clemson.
Classic Lighting & Design – My friend Kim owns this business and she made my life so easy when I was trying to pick out lights for the house. I had a few lights I had already bought that I was worried I wouldn’t be able to use. She found the perfect spots for them and then picked out everything else I needed for the house and marked about where they should go. Because my ceilings are so low I mostly did canned lighting but 3 rooms have lovely ceiling fans and the bathroom has a beautiful light over the sink which was exactly what I described to her as well as an awesome heat lamp, light and fan combo in the ceiling. She made it so easy. The ordering process and delivery was equally as easy. I would highly recommend Kim for new designs or renovation projects!
Pittman’s Supply – This place is like the Ollie’s of Building Supplies. They have a little of everything. The people are all super helpful and easy to work with. So far I’ve just gotten a new front door but will pick up a few more things from them. I know a new door from the kitchen will come from there. Stop over and check them out, they are a few miles away from the Flea Market on White Horse Road.
Massage
Blue Ridge Sports Medicine – Ruth McDonough, LMT; Certified Reflexologist, is a South Carolina state licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Reflexologist. I have known Ruth for years. She has a very caring soul and loves Beagles! I love Reflexology! If you have never had it done, give her a call and check it out.
Rick Smith – 864-346-5457
Lisa Portele, LMT – I started going to Lisa a few months ago. I have known her for over 17 years. She is super hard working and knows her stuff. She has been really working on fixing my back. I am not going to lie, I normally have a death grip on the bed but I can feel myself being straighter and I am in less pain. She is great at what she does and if you are really wanting someone to help you fix some issues, she is your lady.
Unwind with Elizabeth – So I have not actually been to Elizabeth but I have met her several times when she volunteers for Spa for Spays. She always has great energy. I have several people that go to her and really like her. If she is on your side of town for sure give her a try. She also does Reiki!
Raven Massage – I love getting Thai Yoga Massage with Mary. This is a lot of stretching and she is working on the muscles as well. This is sort of a lazy man’s yoga. So you actually need to wear comfortable clothes and you will be on the floor for this. It feels so amazing. Mary also does other types of massage and teaches yoga. And uses both modalities to help with pregnancy and new baby.
Nature
SC State Parks – We have so many wonderful parks here in SC. This is the best way to access the parks and not have to worry if you have the right amount of cash. It is also more cost effective. There are 3 different park passes to choice from, pick the one that is best for you.
GNHA Hiking Group – So the group I go hiking with on Wednesdays is part of this larger group. There are hikes overall all week and with all different levels. Please read each hike carefully to know what you are getting into. I am on the Wednesday group and we leave from the Publix at Furman. There are 3 groups all different levels that leave from the same area on Wednesdays! I am usually in Bud or Lynn’s group.
Elevated Rides – So mountain biking or even biking in general is not my thing BUT Amber (who I work with) loves it and she is involved with mountain bike training weekends. She is of course handling the food aspect. So if you are crazy like she is and love mountain biking or want to give it a try she is your lady!

She has a tremendous understanding of web design and development, ensuring that our website reflects my company’s values and messages. What truly sets her apart is her ability to quickly understand my needs, come up with fresh ideas, and implement quality work within a timely manner. I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Golden Llama – Yummy Pervuvian Food!
Keipi – Totally loved this Georgian (Georgia the country) restaurant. Everything we had was delicious, I am not sure what my favorite was. Go with a group of people if you can so you can try out all the apps. Drinks were top notch and although I don’t drink wine, all of their wines are from Georgia and are fab.
La Costena – So I haven’t gotten to go to this one yet but my Salvadorian said it is a nice place and has yummy food.
Mr Crisp – A little on the pricer side but always have a great experience. Justin, at the bar, is always super helpful with recommendations. Although I have not been there a ton, the staff remembers me and makes an effort to say welcome back. Fish and Chips are the bomb. I did learn here that, I do not like Mezcal but, I did try roasted oysters for the first time. And now get them almost every time.
Nothing Bundt Cakes – Love these guys. OMGosh these are so delicious and they have a lovely Gluten Free Option.
Palmetto Fine Foods – My amazing neighbors who take such great care of me. You can find everything from a Nick Burger and Fries to Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken and the Homemade Greek Dressing is the Bomb.
Rosalinda’s Mexican Restaurant – Love Rosalinda’s – best Mexican in town. This is not your typical Mexican place. I love the divorced tacos with chicken, sea bass tacos, and Jamaica margaritas if they have them. BYOB!
Saffron’s Indian Restaurant – If you are closer to Woodruff Rd than downtown Greenville, Saffron Indian Restaurant is yummy. I love their chicken soup, hot Indian tea, Vegetable Jalfrezi just to name a few. Their Indian Sweet Tea is the bomb.
Sidewall Pizza – Pizza, Salad, and Homemade Ice Cream, oh my! They now have four locations and you can sign up for a free birthday pizza. We stop most Wednesdays at the Traveler’s Rest location for a little sercie after hiking.
Sun Belly Cafe – Vegan/Vegetarian cuisine.
Swad – Well, Auntie and Uncle have retired. There is a new owner. I haven’t decided yet how I feel about it all. It just doesn’t seem them same without them there. Auntie is teaching the new owner her recipes. I will go back and try it again. It is still a great option for anyone that is strictly vegan or vegetarian.
Swordfish – Great place downtown for drinks and small plates. Everything I have had is amazing. Love Emily at the bar. So helpful and great personality. A little on the pricier side but one of my new favorite places.
