What to expect from our Bellydance show?
Discordia Arts is a unique duo of dancers who, between them, bring more than 40 years of theatrical and dance experience to the stage and the classroom. Both teachers have studied many styles of eastern dance extensively and arrived at their unique brand of fusion which often features exciting props such as swords, veils, and even fire.
Their students range the gamut from performing dancers who have also been studying for years, to dancers who have never set foot on a stage before. All of these artists have been working hard to learn new skills and master new choreographies.
This show will feature Discordia Arts and their students dancing solo, duet, and group numbers that they have learned in 2014. There will be swirling skirts and flying veils, shimmies and swords, slow dances that tease your heart strings and fast pieces that will have you clapping your hands. Expect the unexpected and come with an open mind and heart, and you will not be disappointed.
What is a hafla?
Hafla means “party” in Arabic, so in the bellydance community, a hafla is an opportunity to have a dance and middle eastern music themed party. It is a chance for dancers and musicians to dress up and get together and jam.
You don’t need any dance experience to join in at a hafla, but if you want to learn some moves, join Brandy’s ATS workshops earlier in the day and you’ll be ready to try out your new skills at the hafla.
If you’re a musician, bring an instrument and join in the jam.
