Our Favorite Local Businesses

Did you know that for every $100 you spend at a locally-owned store, $68 stays in the community via payroll, taxes, etc. but if you spend that same amount of money at a nationally-owned chain store, only $43 stays here?

And if you buy online, $0 benefits our city–unless it’s a locally owned web business–so before you spend your hard earned money, think about how that will impact our great part of the world. Let’s keep our green in Greenville!

To help you shop locally, we’ve assembled a list of local merchants, restaurants, and service providers that we know and recommend. Shop local, and keep more green in Greenville!

Some of these aren’t local, exactly, but they do such good work they need our support, too!

English for Life – I went to Ecuador with Kim for a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification. It was a lot of work, but once you’re certified you can teach English internationally. (My bucket list/backup plan for someday.) EFL has graduates all over the world – literally!

Food, Health & Wellness

A Better You – This is Tina that I work with – she does a fabulous job and you can come in and have a facial with me and mani/pedi with her if your little heart desires. She does Electrolysis, Natural Manicures and Pedicures.

The Carolina Honey Bee Company – Local Honey and Bee Keeping Supplies. Susan came to speak to my networking group and it was so interesting how bees work and the different types of bees. She is on Main St in Travelers Rest – take an afternoon and go check it out. There are some other great little shops there as well.

Hurricane Creek Farms – Their focus is on organically grown, hydroponic produce.

Perdeaux Fruit Farm – I am all for eating local as much as possible. Perdeaux grows a ton of different fruit and makes their own preserves, cider, apple butter and other yummies on-site with their own or local produce.

Cruises and Tours by Sharlene – If you want to travel, Sharlene is the woman to talk to! She has years of experience, has been EVERYWHERE, and can get you a great deal.

Pixel & Paper Designs – My awesome design lady. Steph does all my marketing stuff, from business cards and postcards to email newsletters and this website. I nicknamed her “Google” because I can call her with a question and if she doesn’t know the answer already she can find it really fast.

The Cobbler’s Corner – The best shoe guy. Ever. Tell him the purple-haired girl sent you. :)

Acropolis on Pelham – Great food at great prices. Tell Rihad that Nicole said hello!

Bin112 – Be sure to ask for Jesse when you go here! Love their flaming kasseri, pimiento and cheese, scallops (Candy of the Sea, they call it). It’s all good!

Handi Indian Restaurant – My favorite Indian restaurant in Greenville! They have a fabulous lunch buffet so you can try a lot of different things if you are a newbie to Indian cuisine. They are super nice and will take good care of you.

Lazy Goat – This is my favorite tapas restaurants. And yes this is where Juan works! Be sure to ask for him or Carlos when you make your reservations!

Luna Rosa – the best gelato in Greenville.

Rosalinda’s Mexican Restaurant – Love Rosalinda’s – best Mexican in town. This is not your typical Mexican place. I love the divorced tacos with chicken, sea bass tacos, and Jamaica margaritas if they have them. I prefer Cazadores Tequila.

Saffron’s Indian Restaurant – If you are closer to Woodruff Rd, Saffron Indian Restaurant is yummy. I love their chicken soup, hot Indian tea, Vegetable Jalfrezi just to name a few. I always love to hear our favorite waiter say “My pleasure, mama!”

Saffron’s Side Deli – Downtown Greenville in the West End, great place to go to sit back and relax and enjoy some yummy food. The guys are great. They were a sponsor for our World Of Belly Dance Event in September 2010 and took such wonderful care of us the night of our performance.

Sushi Hana – Yummy sushi and Japanese food. They come up with the wackiest sushi rolls, but everything is really good. You can try a lot of different things at their Sunday buffet, and their early bird special is a great deal.

The Local Taco – Not your typical taco combos but super delicious and drinks are great, too.

2 Chefs to Go – I mainly eat at the one on Pelham Rd. They have the best rice krispie treats with peanut butter filling.

Nyla Beans – Great store on Pleasantburg/Wade Hampton they have all sorts of interesting hand crafted jewelry, clothes, unique gift ideas. I always find something great here.

Style by Becca – Based in the far West End Art District, Style by Becca is the best Boutique shopping experience in Greenville. She has cute local items and all the clothing she brings in is unique and since she is not a large store not everyone in town will have on your pieces. She is also a fabulous hair dresser. Just stop in her shop to see how cute the displays are and how unique it is. She is opened late on First Fridays.

Trade Route – Awesome items from Asia and Thailand. Love shopping here and it’s my uncle’s favorite store in Greenville.

Wild Birds Unlimited – This is a local Mom & Daughter team – love these girls. I am lazy about my own yard but I love to buy gifts from them. Everything I have bought people they have loved. They have great seed wreaths, bells, and snowmen that make great gifts for under $20 – all the way up to some awesome recycled plastic bird houses that last forever!

Yvonne Miller  – I met Yvonne at Artisphere 2012. I loved her collage work and after my failed attempt at doing collage I have a great love and appreciate how hard it is to do. She custom designed the Blissful Butterfly that’s in my office. I told her what was going on with my life and what kinds of things I liked and there you have it. I did tell her I wanted a wishing jar and she left me the sweetest wish. It was just a little something extra but made it even more special.
