"Keep your eye on color: New makeup trends help you lighten up, brighten up" By Cheryl P. Allen, The Greenville News, April 4, 2011

"It's part of the look. It's going to be fun," says Ricardo Costales, national makeup artist for Lancome. "Fashion goes in cycles. There's so much more that we can do without making it boring."

Makeup trends this season are anything but. From bright or smoky eyes to bold lips to bronzy glows for the face, you can get the look you want — or a look you might never have expected.

The accent is on the lips or the eyes, but never both, makeup artists say. Bold, rich lipsticks pair best with a natural look in makeup — concealer with limited foundation and eye makeup.

Or you can switch it up and have bold dramatic eyes with neutral lips, says Nicole Martin, esthetician and owner of Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy on Laurens Road.

"You want to draw attention to one feature and not have your whole face jump out at someone," Martin says. "I can't do nude lips, so I do a little color."

For spring, she says, "lighten it up. Take a break from the heavy look of winter and go with a more sheer coverage.

"I love our Wild to Mild Bronzing Primer with SPF 20 paired with our Perfectly Clear Shimmer with SPF30 by Colorescience Pro," Martin says. "I have my color and my sun protection all in one. The shimmer actually helps smooth out uneven skin tones and evens out scarring."

"About Face for Summer," By Cheryl P. Allen, The Greenville News, May 14, 2009

"Nicole Martin, owner of Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy on Laurens Road, said metallics – silver, bronze and gold – continue to be popular."They can be used all over the eye, as an eyeliner or as an accent," Martin said. "There is no hard rule that you have to use the same color. Mix it up a little."

Sheer and sassy
For the lips, sheer with a pop of color provides just the right touch, Martin said. Candy-colored glazes – with the sheen of a gloss and the longevity of lipstick – are perfect. "They are very hydrating to the lips and they have a really pretty sheer color that's great for the summer," Martin said.

Foundations and blushes should have a light feel with a bit of shimmer. "Sheer blushes are great for the summer," Martin said. Hues can range from playful peaches and roses to elegant shades of plum. "They'll add a little hint of color to the cheeks but not a heavy (look) like you would wear in the winter."

"Just face it: Summer can be tough on your skin," By Lillia Callum-Penso, The Greenville News, July 24, 2008.

"Summer may mean cookouts, beach vacations and no school, but all that fun in the sun can wreak havoc on skin. So if you haven't already done so, you might want to reconsider your skin-care regimen. "It is confusing to know, well, when do I switch this, when do I use more or less of this?" says Nicole Martin, owner of Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy in Greenville."

"Get a facial, plant a tree," By Lillia Callum-Penso, The Greenville News, April 10, 2008

"Green is a popular shade these days, even for facials. This month, Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy is donating $5 from every facial purchased to Hands on Greenville to plant trees. The local makeup and skin care resource is offering the special as its "monthly facial" in honor of Earth Day, which is April 22. "I'm a big promoter of doing things green when possible," says Nicole Martin, owner of Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy in Greenville."

"Teens can get skin-care tips while supporting local charity," By Cheryl P. Allen, The Greenville News, November 8, 2007

"This week, teen-agers will learn that there's more to beauty than eye shadow and lipstick. Teens are invited to participate in a local fundraiser sponsored by Raspberry Moon Skin Therapy, a skin care facility in Greenville that specializes in facials, full body waxing and mineral makeup. The event targets girls ages 11 to 18. The event is designed to both teach teens how to care for their skin and help those in need, said Nicole Martin, owner of Raspberry Moon."
