Celia Cruz - picture courtesy of www.starpulse.comWell, I guess better late than never! Your spa-cation this month is to the island of Cuba in honor of Celia Cruz. She was born in Havana, Cuba on October 21st, 1925. Celia is known as the "Queen of Salsa". Against her father's wishes (her mother overruled her father), she started her music career as a teenager. Celia left Cuba for the last time in 1960 and later became a US resident. She died at her home in New Jersey on July 16, 2003.

For more information on Celia Cruz visit http://www.answers.com/topic/celia-cruz

Cuban-born singing star Celia Cruz (1925 - 2003) has been hailed as the queen of salsa, the queen of rumba, the queen of Latin music, and an inadvertent symbol of the Cuban American community's exile spirit. Cruz, who fled the Caribbean island nation in 1960, became a world-famous singer with an energetic, flamboyant stage presence that brought audiences to their feet. "Cruz is undisputedly the best-known and most influential female figure in the history of Afro-Cuban music," declared Billboard's Leila Cobo.

Although we are not having a Cuban Event like I wanted here are two great Cuban things to try in Greenville:

Caribbean Rhythm Salsa offers Rueda Lessons every Thursday at Blu Martini, Downtown Greenville, at 8:30. The lesson is free. Rueda is kind of like a Latin style square dance where the moves are called out. http://crsalsa.com/

Rivera's in Greer - serves Cuban Fusion Food - I love this place!! http://www.caferivera.net/

Question of the day - What are the make-up trends for Fall?

This fall's colores are ones of pure self-confidence. "Wearing color is naturally uplifting - even hopeful," says Rudy Miles, Aveda global Makeup Director.

Fall Make-up TrendsKevin Givens, TIGI International Cosmetics Director says, "Wearing bolder colors, such as red lips, certainly takes confidence as well as exudes confidence."

  • This season it's all about putting the drama, color and play back into makeup. It's all about re-visiting the 40's and the 80's with a modern twist.
  • After creating your smoky eye, add a pop of bright color to the inner lid, outer corner or brow bone. This is the season for liner any way you like. From the smoldering eyes of smudged shadow to crisp timeless liquid winged eyes.
  • Vintage vamp is back in shades of candy apple red to scarlet and crimson.
  • The top trend that ruled the runways was the flawless face.
  • Full defined brows are all the rage.
  • Nails are dark. Almost black purple or the opposite extreme with nude or crème color polishes.

"Skin is definitely 'in', the look is flawless, refined and polished!" Norman Sands, NARS

Five Steps to Perfect Skin

1) Makeup Primer - to soothe, smooth and create longer lasting natural looking foundation - Great to use Colorescience Line Tamer for brightening the skin or our Wild to Mild for a touch of bronze. I notice a difference in my skin on the days I use my primer and on the days I am lazy or simply forget!

2) Sheer Matte Foundation/Sheer Glow Foundation apply with fingers to blur imperfections and even out skin tone - Colorescience does not use traditional foundations but what I do is use Colorescience Pressed Powder to cover any uneven tones or blemishes.

3) Concealer - camouflage imperfections and brighten eyes, doubles as an eyeshadow base - applied with fingers - Try Colorescience's Optical Illusions or Corrector Kits for the perfect camouflage application.

Get perfect skin4) Loose Powder- triple milled to set makeup with a light silky texture using the Kabuki Brush to buff to perfection - Colorescience Foundation Brush or Pressed Powder applied with our Whisper Brush is the perfect amount of coverage yet still sheer and silky.

5) Facials - You will be amazed at what a difference your skin will have after a facial. I recommend that you have a facial treatment every 4 weeks. If your time or budget does not allow for this then come as often as you can. The trick is to book your appointments before you leave so you stay on schedule. My goal is not only to provide you with a beautiful healthy glow but give you a very relaxing, stress-reducing experience as well. Your hour should be totally about you and your well being!
