We're off to IrelandTop o' the morning to you!

Well, we are off to Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! I mean really, what else is there to do in March? I love Ireland - I have not been back since 1993 but it is a beautiful country filled with lovely people.

An Old Irish Blessing

May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures. May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours!

Question of the day - What's the deal with the shamrock?

Irish ShamrockContrary to popular belief, the shamrock is not the official emblem of Ireland; the Celtic harp is. You could say the shamrock is the emblem of Irish culture.

Every year on St. Patrick's Day, Aer Lingus, the official airline of Ireland, flies freshly cut shamrock to the Irish embassies all over the world so that Irish diplomats and uniformed personnel can uphold the "Wearing of the Green" tradition on their beloved National Holiday.

Many agree that the ancient Druids honored it as a sacred plant. Some people still believe the shamrock has mystical, even prophetic, powers. It is said that the leaves of shamrocks turn upright whenever a storm is coming.

It is true that you won't find any snakes in Ireland. This shamrock legend is validated to some by the fact that snakes are never seen in fields of shamrocks anywhere in the world, and that shamrocks can indeed be used as a remedy for snake venom.

Pamper Yourself At Home - Potato Treatments

The next time you make mashed potatoes leave a little to the side with nothing in it to create one of these cool spa treatments.

For an amazing hand and foot soak, make mashed potatoes using russets and milk (don't waste any butter), and then water them down a bit. Soak your feet or hands in them. The mashed potatoes retain the heat and are an amazing treatment for swollen and sore feet. The lactose in the milk makes your skin feel soft and smooth.

Or a facial mask: Cook a potato in its skin, peel, and mash. Add a little cream, plain yogurt, or milk and mash into a thick paste. This makes a wonderful nourishing face and neckline mask. Leave on for 30 minutes.
