I'm celebrating five years in business!

I can't believe it is five years this month since I went out completely on my own. Time has just flown by! I can honestly say that I love what I do, I love my clients and I love helping people look and feel better. Thank you for your support and encouragement and business advice. I could not have made it in this business without you!

I look forward to growing with you as we set off on the next five years of adventure. What should we get into next?

My girl CreeThe Dog Days of Summer are upon us!

I don't know about you, but the 100 degree heat is killing me, and it's not fun for our four-legged friends. So in honor of those Dog Days of Summer, this month's newsletter has gone to the Dogs!

FYI - According to the Greenville Humane Society, for every person that is born, 15 dogs and 45 cats are also born. That's a lot of pets! And every year, between six and eight million dogs and cats enter U.S. shelters. The GHS finds homes for 5,000 adoptable animals each year. To put it simply, pet overpopulation is a problem. And that problem is growing. While it seems overwhelming to think of millions of unwanted pets, there is a way each and every pet owner can help: have your pet spayed or neutered. Each animal adopted from the GHS is spayed or neutered, and they also have a clinic that offers reduced rates for these procedures.

Please consider adopting a pet from the Greenville Human Society, Pet Finders, CCA, Pet Angels, Kitten Action or one of the other wonderful agencies that help find our furry friends a loving and caring home. All of my girls are strays or from the Humane Society. I would not have it any other way. If you are dead set on a particular breed, there are agencies that specialize in rescuing particular breeds as well, and you would be surprised how many purebred dogs end up in the pound!

Product of the Month - Happytails Doggie Spa Line

Inside every mutt there's a muttrosexual just dying to get out!

happytails doggie spa lineI love, love, love this line of dog grooming products and so do my girls. Why should you chose Happytails for your muttrosexual?

  • Better-than-human quality ingredients - Cosmetic quality ingredients formulated in an FDA approved lab!
  • We wouldn't use anything on our dogs that we wouldn't use on ourselves. All products are tested on humans - us! And we invite you to try every product on yourself to see just how safe, gentle and effective they are. (Yes, even the breath spray!)
  • They smell great! We spent a great deal of energy making sure that our products smell great for both you and your dog.
  • Our products are designed to enhance the canine human bond - It's easier to be close to your dog if he's clean, smells fresh and isn't itching and scratching.
  • Happytails donates a portion of the profits from all our products to Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs. Check out their site www.caninecompanions.org.
  • Pound for pound we're just more fun! Henry Ward Beecher once said "A dog is the god of frolic" and we agree. That's why our products are so bright, lively and laugh-out-loud entertaining well at least we think so)!

Happytails has everything you need for your furry friend. Shampoos, conditioners, dry wash, elixir treatments, emission control, and itchin' relief from bugs, hot spots and the heat.

Well - I just found out Friday that Happy Tails is offering an Earthquake Special! 20% off all in stock items so I am passing those savings on to you. Through the month of August or while supplies last, so get it while the gettin's good.

Question of the day - How do I keep my animals safe in the summer?

  • Don't leave pets in parked cars on warm days.
  • Dogs should never ride in the back of pick-up trucks. In a sudden stop or quick turn, dogs can be thrown from the vehicle and seriously injured or killed.
  • My girl CheyenneMake sure your pet rides inside and wears a seat belt harness designed for dogs or is in a crate.
  • Store plant food, fertilizer and insecticides where your pet can't reach them.
  • Make sure your pet always wears a collar with an identification tag. If your pet gets lost, he has a better chance of being returned to you.
  • Take care when exercising your pet. On very hot days, limit your dog's exercise to early morning or evening hours. Sidewalks and driveways can get very hot and can even burn your pet's paws.
  • If you have a pool, make sure your pet can't get to it when you are not around. If you want to play in the pool with your pooch, be sure to keep an eye on her.
  • Provide plenty of fresh water for your pets.
  • When outside, be sure dogs have access to a shady area.
  • Don't take your pet to crowded summer events like concerts or fairs. Loud noises and crowds can be stressful for pets.
  • Be on the lookout for heat stroke. Signs include panting a lot, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, walking unsteady, vomiting, or a deep red or purple tongue. Move your pet to the shade and apply cool (not cold) water to her body gradually to lower her temperature. Apply cold towels or ice packs to your pet's neck, head, and chest only. Let your pet drink water or lick ice cubes. And bring her to a vet right away.
  • Don't chain or tether your dog outside.
  • Keep your cat inside to keep her safe from other animals and cars.
  • Check with the vet for heartworm prevention in pets.
  • If you have a rabbit, don't keep her outside. Temperatures above 80 F can cause heat stroke in rabbits. Rabbits can't cool themselves off like other pets--in the wild they go underground to stay cool. Keep her cage out of direct sunlight. You can chill squares of tile in the freezer and then place it where your bunny can lay on it. Leave a few ice cubes in her water dish.
